Recruitment in Northern Ireland
The Fair Employment (Northern Ireland) Acts of 1976 & 1989 were introduced to combat discrimination in procedures relating to recruitment, training and promotion in Northern Ireland.
The Act requires the Company to report to the Northern Ireland Fair Employment Commission on a number of issues:
• A Report covering composition of workforce, their religious affiliation and their job titles.
• Complete a tri annual Report, detailing all workforce composition; training and development and recruitment activity.
Recruitment therefore must be carried out in line with a strict set of rules relating to advertising, interviewing and record keeping.
The Company is committed to equality of opportunity. And as part of our affirmative action programme within Northern Ireland we particularly welcome applications from the Roman Catholic community. Although it should be noted that all applicants will be judged soley on their merits.
To enable a fair and equal recruitment process therefore, when recruiting externally in Northern Ireland, the company places adverts in both Catholic and Protestant newspapers (Belfast Telegraph & Irish News).
Candidates will be asked to complete Religious Affiliation questions during their application, these are kept separate on the ProviTrac resourcing system.
A Human Resources professional is always involved in the interviewing. Interview panels will comprise two people or more, of mixed religious affiliation where practicable.
• All members of the selection panel are provided with training and guidance on all aspects of the FEC and Equal Opportunities policy of the company and will act in accordance with the company policies with regard to recruitment in Northern Ireland.
