Customers receiving the new BOC catalogues for 2009-10 over the coming weeks will notice a new, more targeted focus to them.
With thousands of product lines across five main areas, and more items than ever in the latest series, BOC is taking a new approach to ensure that customers get the information they need in the most appropriate format.
"As business picks up, we know that our customers don't want to waste time wading through mountains of paper to find the right safety products or welding equipment and consumables," notes BOC's Emma Byron. "So we've gone back to the drawing board to see how we can make sure that they have just the information they need, when they want it."
September saw the launch of the new BOC Industrial Products Catalogue, with everything from cutting torches to abrasive discs in it. There are 200 new lines for this year, taking the total number of products above 1,300. Over the coming months, further catalogues detailing safety products, equipment for hire, valves and welding-related items will become available.
This year, customers are being offered a choice of format for the catalogue. "We are contacting existing customers before mailing the catalogues," explains Emma Byron. "We'll be asking them which books they want - and in what format. They can choose between the traditional printed form, an e-book which they can browse on their computer or a CD-ROM version. The market is moving on and we are responding to that in providing more computer-based versions for customers that want them."
The look of the catalogues is changing this year as well. In the past, each of the books had its own 'look and feel'. Now, all of them will have a standard BOC format. The different catalogues had developed over the years to serve different markets and people buying from one range were sometimes not aware that BOC could provide products for a wide range of business sectors. The new common format is designed to highlight the fact that BOC provides a 'one stop shop' for a vast range of industrial products and services.
