BOC Healthcare, the UK’s largest medical gases business, has launched a new drugs kit for dental practices to help them manage medical emergencies. The Emergency Dental Kit contains a selection of drugs for treating the most common medical emergencies and provides information on how to identify and manage such emergencies.
The kit has been developed in line with the recommendations of the Resuscitation Council UK in its paper Medical Emergencies and Resuscitation Standards. The paper, which was reissued in December 2012, recommends that dental practices have access to a list of drugs and equipment in line with “a public expectation that dental practitioners and dental care professionals should be competent in managing medical emergencies”.
Among the emergencies that are most likely to be encountered in dental practices are asthma, anaphylaxis, angina and cardiac arrest, and BOC’s drugs kit includes step-by-step instructions on what dental practitioners should do while awaiting professional medical help from the ambulance service.
Announcing the launch of the drugs kit, Andrew Harvey, Head of BOC Healthcare, said: “We are extremely pleased to introduce our new drugs kit for dental practices. Along with our existing offer of the BOC LIFELINE® range of resuscitation equipment, including emergency oxygen and Automated External Defibrillators, this new bespoke package positions BOC Healthcare as the ‘go to’ supplier for emergency drugs and equipment to the dental industry.”
BOC Healthcare, which is part of BOC, a member of The Linde Group, developed the package with Mitovie, a speciality pharmaceutical company. Mitovie has a focus on developing medical propositions in areas where there is an unmet medical need both big and small. The Company continues to develop innovative medical solutions which have helped both the Practitioner and Patient alike and the new Emergency Dental Kit is a classical example of its product and service offering.
“The UK dental industry has an excellent safety record although, as in virtually all medical procedures, unforeseen events occasionally occur, including medical emergencies. We are absolutely delighted and thrilled to be working with BOC on the new Emergency Dental Kit’’, says Mr Vinod Kaushal, Chairman of Mitovie. “We have already seen tremendous success and need for such a product for the dental profession - we hope it will become the gold standard throughout the UK’’.
