Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) is a popular process with prototypers and product designers thanks to the processes ability to rapidly convert complex CAD geometries into working prototypes.
SLS processes begin with the 3D CAD data transferred onto an STL file which in turn interacts with the SLS machine.
The SLS process commences with the polymer material powder heated to just below melting point.
The laser sinters the powder through a CO2 laser in an inert BOC Nitrogen gas.
Once the first layer build has been completed, the build platform drops down before the levelling roller pushes fresh powder onto the platform.
BOC provides Nitrogen for Selective Laser Sintering processes via industrial compressed cylinders, cryogenic and bulk liquid vessels or through an on-site Nitrogen generator.
BOC's product supply, engineering capabilities and experience interacts with customers' operating SLS processes in the following areas:
- Design, provision and installation of nitrogen gas supply systems.
- OnStream gas system design and maintenance services.
- Gas safety equipment, safety checks and training.
Leading in Additive Manufacturing Innovation
BOC UK Ltd are proud to be an active member of the ACCLAIM project consortium. The ACCLAIM (ACcelerated CLadding And Integrated Machining) project received approximately £694,000 of support from the UK’s innovation agency, the Technology Strategy Board. With this support, ACCLAIM aims to address some major and growing problems within the additive manufacturing (AM) sector; limiting factors such as cost, time and resource needed to finish parts after an AM build as well as improving the mechanical performance of AM built parts are all being addressed within the project.

GENIE® Gas Cylinders
GENIE® is the ideal gas cylinder for additive manufacturing processes used in prototyping, tooling and casting.
GENIE®, available in 10L or 20L Nitrogen, contains 30% more gas than standard cylinders, has attachable wheels and a handle for portability, is significantly lighter than standard cylinders and includes a digital display which indicates flow rates and remaining gas.
The GENIE® is designed to stack two cylinders; ideal for additive manufacturing processes requiring small footprints.
