PLASTINUM™ GIM is an innovative technology enabling customers to upgrade and improve their gas injection moulding processes. PLASTINUM GIM provides an efficient and effective alternative to both water and nitrogen gas injection processes.
Liquid carbon dioxide (LIC) is injected into the injection moulding process in order to create cavities within the plastic melt; parts manufactured via this process include automotive and white good handles and fluid pipes.
Pressurising liquid carbon dioxide to 150 bar increases the cooling performance and provides higher density than with nitrogen, resulting in significantly shorter cooling times; as high as 50%. Cooling with liquid carbon dioxide also provides a dry cooling process with no further requirement for drying parts.
