Training standards
The British and European standard EN378 states that anyone working on refrigerating systems with flammable refrigerants should be trained to achieve competence in safety aspects of flammable refrigerant handling.
This will include the following requirements:
- knowledge of legislation, regulations and standards relating to flammable refrigerants
- detailed knowledge of and skill in handling flammable refrigerants, personal protective equipment, refrigerant leakage prevention, handling of cylinders, charging, leak detection, recovery and disposal
Other standard refrigerant handling courses and qualifications do not cover the required areas in sufficient detail.
