Waste Management
Venting or leaking fluorocarbon refrigerants into the atmosphere causes damage to the environment.
This has prompted tighter legislation regarding the containment of refrigerant and the prevention of illegal release to the atmosphere.
BOC operates a 'cradle-to-grave' refrigerants business.
We have a fully licensed and compliant recovery and reclaim operation which is second to none in the UK, offering many operational advantages.
Recovery service
Our recovery service provides empty cylinders to enable customers to empty their refrigeration systems while they carry out mechanical maintenance.
BOC can offer two different types of package:
Recovery cylinders
For filling with refrigerant when a system is no longer required. The refrigerant is recovered for reclamation or disposal.
Decant cylinders
For customers who wish to re-use the refrigerant (usually when mechanical maintenance has been carried out on the refrigeration unit).
Overfilled cylinders
Customers must NOT overfill recovery and decant cylinders due to safety considerations.
Scales should be used by engineers who are filling recovery and decant packages.
If overfilling occurs, BOC may make a handling charge plus the costs of labour and materials associated with making the packages safe. In addition, incineration costs may apply.
A guide to BOC hazardous waste returns
BOC is licensed under The Hazardous Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2005 to keep, treat and dispose of controlled waste from its processing site at Immingham, near Grimsby.
The licence requires BOC to regularly report to our customers if their waste has been recycled, stored or disposed of via incineration.
A guide is available from our Sales Office which provides a step-by-step explanation of the returns form.
