Richard Keatman, an Alstom welding apprentice, has won the BOC English Apprentice Welder 2011 title after completing a challenging series of welding tasks at Alstom’s state of the art engineering facility in Stafford.

Ian Harries from Haverfordwest has won this year’s BOC Welsh Apprentice Welder competition held at Coleg Powys in Newtown on 29-30 June. The six competitors at this year’s final had all come through a process of local and regional heats in order to reach this stage.

Alistair Wilson from Tillicoultry in Clackmannanshire has won this year’s BOC Scottish Apprentice Welder title, beating stiff competition to take the title at the finals held at Adam Smith College, Glenrothes, on 15-16 June.

The contest to decide the best apprentice welder in England this year will be decided at global engineering company Alstom’s state-of-the-art welding facility in Stafford next month.
