Leak Detection Gases
F-Gas legislation requires the 'operator' to prevent leakage of fluorinated gases, to repair any detected leak as soon as possible and to check the leak repair within a month to ensure it has been effective.
BOC products will aid the service engineer in the pressure testing and leak detection of refrigerant systems.
Pressure testing gases
BOC provides engineers with two gases for pressure testing and to aid leak detection.
Nitrogen
Nitrogen (oxygen free / OFN) is the most commonly used gas to pressure test systems prior to refrigerant charge, or as part of servicing following refrigerant recovery.
Further details can be found within the 'Industrial Gases' section of the site.
Nitrogen/helium mix
BOC has introduced a new nitrogen/helium mixture.
The new mixture has a smaller molecular composition, enabling it to detect very small leaks.
The leak detection mix is supplied by BOC in an easy-carry cylinder, filled to 200bar and is fitted with a standard industrial valve outlet.
Benefits of the nitrogen/helium mix
The new nitrogen/helium mix provides the following benefits:
- improved detection: the new mix can detect much smaller leaks due to the size of the test gas molecules. Helium molecules are far smaller than nitrogen so are better able to pick up small leaks in a refrigeration system. BOC recommends that customers use the package for auditing refrigeration systems before they commit to any new service contract
- safe and easy to use; inert and non-flammable: the leak detection mix is compatible with all standard pressure testing equipment (including nitrogen regulators) and is suitable for leak testing any size of refrigeration system
- cost effective: by reducing the amount of refrigerant gas lost from the system, the improved leak detection gas will reduce the number as well as the cost of call-outs by customers
Cylinder range
This gas is available in a small cylinder measuring 90cm tall by 14cm diameter.
